LA River Trail

Despite the 100 degree heat, we headed out for a ride along the LA River trail over the weekend.  I know many people have been working hard at revitalizing and improving the LA River and I was happy to see some of the fruits of those efforts on our ride this time!

I loved seeing the River of Wings art installation (riverofwings.com) “flying” all along the river trail. It just launched in conjunction with the Frogtown Art Walk.  Each bird is unique and designed by a local school, community group, or artist.

And I was excited to stop by The Frog Spot, a new community space and pop-up café in Elysian Valley right along the river trail.  On such a hot day it was a welcome respite from the heat.  They offer free ice water, wi-fi, sunscreen, and shaded chairs & tables.  Plus, cold drinks, snacks, and yummy paletas were available for purchase.

When Jeremy and I were in Taiwan last year, we rented bikes and biked along Taipei’s river trail. We noticed quite a few cafés and pop-up bike shops along the way and I thought our river trails could really use a few of those. So I’m really happy The Frog Spot is open, even if only for the summer right now, and hope that in the future there will be more places like it!

Sriracha Factory Tour

A few months ago we took the free Sriracha Factory tour at their new factory in Irwindale.  It smelled like yummy, garlicky hot sauce heaven!
